Did you know that tea is the most consumed beverage in world, surpassing water? In the United States alone, more than 30 million people make a cup of tea part of their daily lives. Tea has a story that reaches far into history, carrying romance and culture with it to our modern times. In ancient China, tea was used as an ice breaker between parents and courting gentlemen, and this practice is still in use today. For the English, tea has been a central part of midday relaxation for centuries. There are countless other examples throughout history and countless occasions for a cup of tea.
Oh How I Love Tea….Let Me Count The Ways:
The love of tea is more than an emotion, but almost a result of the true health benefits of tea. Science has proven folklore to be true, finding the following benefits of tea:
- Flavonoids in tea act as antioxidants that may play a role in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease by reducing lipid oxidation, reducing instances of heart attacks, strokes, and may beneficially impact blood vessel function, which is a key indicator of cardiovascular health.
- Tea flavonoids may also reduce the risk of certain cancers by inhibiting mutations in DNA from free radicals and some carcinogens. Tea may also promote the apoptosis (programmed cell death) of abnormal cells and inhibit cell division, reducing the overall growth of abnormal cells.
- Tea has been long associated with oral health and bone health.
- Other compounds in tea have been shown to support the human immune system.
